Blast Off Kids

Blast Off Kids

Blast Off is the Kids Club run by Calvary Church from 6:30-7:45pm every Friday night during term time. At Blast Off we believe that fun and positivity mixed with an exciting programme full of adventurous stories, great lessons, messy activities and energetic games is a fantastic way to launch a little life and blast it towards an awesome future!

Meet The Team!

Although the children are only at Blast Off for a short time each Friday, we aim for it to be an excellent 75 minutes of their week! There are actually 3 clubs within Blast Off that cater for the different age groups and requirements of the children who attend

Blast Off Juniors is for children in Reception and Year 1 and it takes place in the upstairs rooms at Calvary Church. We have a mixture of free flow activities, crafts, games, Wii, bible stories and lots of fun. We have water/juice and fruit as snack. The team is made up of experienced volunteers including 2 qualified nursery nurses.

Blast Off Base Camp is for children in Year 2 up to Year 4, this takes place in the main hall of Calvary Church. Here we watch giggly juniors become confident children ready to tackle Blast Off Beyond. Base Camp has a slightly louder and crazier atmosphere than what you might experience at Juniors. It is a whirlwind of fun and adventure, with leaders who are as wild as the kids.

Blast Off Beyond is for children in Years 5 and 6, this takes place at the Kingswinford Youth Centre. As the kids are a bit older and wiser, we have a bigger, cooler club for them to keep growing. We have great facilities including a pool table, a computer suite, air hockey and a TUCK SHOP! The nights are fun filled and an exciting way to spend their Friday nights and learn about God. We also have occasional trips back to Calvary to join as one big group for GIG nights. Blast Off offers a first come first served minibus shuttle run from Calvary to the Youth Centre for those parents who have children at both sites, with an additional charge of £1 a night.

The Purposes of Blast Off

Blast Off nights are designed for the 2 purposes of children having fun and learning about our 7 strands.

Strand 1. Ourselves.

We hope that the children who attend would discover great things about themselves, develop self confidence and know that their leaders think they are awesome! Also that they would feel encouraged to develop and share their dreams and ambitions for the future no matter how crazy!

Strand 2. Relationships.

That the children would learn how to be great team players -  in their families, with their friends and at school with their teachers. Also that they would develop great friendships at Blast Off with their peers. We encourage this with team games, time in their pods and activities.

Strand 3. Our World.

That the children would gain an understanding of some of the things that happen in the world around them, understand their part in it and know they can help be a solution to the problems they see everyday.

Strand 4. God.

That the children would understand they were created by a loving God. That they can have a personal relationship with God through prayer and that God is powerful, caring and wants to know us personally.

Strand 5. Jesus.

That the children would learn about the character of Jesus; that he shows us how to live in a loving way. That they would learn about his life and the meaning of his stories. That they would know that Jesus welcomed the children in the Bible and he thinks they are a joy!

Strand 6. Holy Spirit.

That the children would learn about how the Holy Spirit is shown in the Bible and how it is relevant in our lives today. The Holy Spirit helps us to live in the best way and make the right choices. The children will have opportunities to pray and discuss what impact the Holy Spirit can have in our lives every day.

Strand 7. Salvation.

The children will learn about the meaning behind Easter. That Jesus died on the cross so that we can be forgiven of the wrong things we do, that if we are sorry and thank Jesus for his sacrifice then we can spend eternity in heaven with him.

And of course that they would have lots and lots and lots of fun! This happens EVERY week but especially our GIG nights when everyone meets at Calvary and we have the Live GIG Band, fun games, guest speakers and general mayhem!

Policies and Procedures

CRB and Child Protection

All Blast Off leaders over the age of 16 are or are in the process of being fully CRB checked; these checks are monitored and updated regularly by Anna Perkins, Calvary's Child Protection Officer. We follow the Child Protection Policy of 'Treasure Kids' which is Calvary's Umbrella Children's Organisation (please ask if you would like a copy). Leaders of all ages are required to attend a Child Protection Training Session in order that they fully understand the Policy.

Membership

All we ask for a child to be a member is that you fill in a full membership form with as much detail as possible and pay £1 a week! We may use your information from time to time to text you or send you information, if you would prefer us not to do this please state that on the membership form.
